Best Luxury Spirts

If you’ve decided to give luxury alcohol gifts this coming holiday season then you probably have more than a few questions about what to look for when purchasing luxury spirits.

A gift should be appreciated regardless of whether or not it is a top shelf spirit but, that said, you probably want to get something that will truly wow the recipient.

And we’re here to help.

Shopping for liquor can often be daunting because there’s so much to choose from and so many different ways to make the same spirit - at least in theory.

In this article we’re going to give you some advice on how to find high quality luxury spirits that will make great gifts this coming season. Hopefully you can use this to make sure you get the best gift possible but also find some helpful advice for your own personal shopping.

What is alcohol by volume and does it matter?

Yes. Although a lower ABV number does not mean that the liquor is of lesser quality, it is often a good general rule that the higher the ABV the more expensive and luxurious the product. When shopping for luxury alcohol gifts, check out the ABV numbers on the bottles you’re looking at and see which one is best for you.

Beware of Fancy Packaging

One of the more common tricks that often sidetracks shoppers in the market for luxury alcohol gifts is that they will often become distracted by gaudy or eye-grabbing packaging. Don’t let this happen to you. Good packaging does not translate into a good brand by necessity though you will often find some of the best brands also have some of the highest-quality product packaging on the shelf.

White Rum and Dark/Black Rum

When buying a white rum you might want to opt for a barrel-aged version over that distilled in a steel tank. With dark or black rum you want a depth of color which also tends to indicate how aged the spirit is.

Gin

Depending on the person that you are buying the luxury spirits for you should probably stick to a traditional gin rather than some of the more modern variations. Try buying a high ABV gin made from the classic elderberry flavor.

Tequila

The general rule with tequila is that you want a high ABV and the better the tequila the more expensive it will be.

Bourbon/Rye

You really can’t go wrong with a bourbon or a whisky rye luxury alcohol gifts but, as with the above, you want to check the ABV on the bottle as well as use your own personal intuition about the recipient of the gift.

Vodka

The main choice with a vodka spirit is between rye or potato based vodka. Though there are a ton of different types of vodka out there don’t let its ubiquity let you mistake it for a common drink. One of the most popular luxury alcohol gifts is a fine bottle of vodka with a tin of Beluga caviar, for example.
